What the Catch With Alternative Energy Partners Inc? According to various disclosures, no transactions have occurred to mention Alternative Energy Partners in various investment newsletters and there is no recent news from the company. In fact, the most recent press release from Alternative Energy Partners dates from September to announce the launch of the beta version of http://www.pharmajanes.com its website for delivery of medical marijuana products. As of September, the PharmaJanes beta platform was only available online with the mobile application set to follow after the official launch of the online platform. Otherwise and according to the latest Form 10-Q filed on December 23rd, the company agreed to acquire the PharmaJanesTM marketing operation from iEquity Corp. back in May 2013 and will be changing its business model to focus purely in the medical marijuana marketing space. In addition, AEGY will be changing its name to PharmaJanes, Inc. Otherwise, someone by the name of Mario Barrera currently serves as Chairman, President and CEO and sole officer and the company has no paid employees relying instead on paid consultants to provide necessary services. A look at Alternative Energy Partnersfinancials reveals revenues of zero (most recent reported quarter), 3k, $1k and $1k for the past four quarters along not income of $230k (most recent reported quarter) and net losses of $2,954k, $51k and $452k. At the end of October, Alternative Energy Partners had $2,031k in current liabilities and $237k in long term debt. So while investors or traders got a high on Monday (and last Friday as well), it does not look like a sustainable high.

Look out Primo Water Corporation (NASDAQ:PRMW), there's a serious threat nipping out your heels, and there way of "doing bottled water" may be a heck of a lot easier for consumers to swallow than your way. The name of that budding competition? Alkaline Water Company Inc. (OTCBB:WTER). In fact, WTER became just a little more competitive on Tuesday thanks to widening its reach.... again.

  • [By James E. Brumley]

The initial thought may be that it's a bit of an awkward sales venue. The more one thinks about it - and digs - the more this relationship makes sense. And if you did really deep into the details (into a philosophical level), a "whole is greater than the sum of its parts" scenario surfaces. What's this not-really-unusual relationship? The Alkaline Water Company Inc. (OTCBB:WTER) is now selling its Alkaline88 brand of water through Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN). Take that Primo Water Corporation (NASDAQ:PRMW)!

  • [By John Udovich]

Small cap Sodastream International Ltd (NASDAQ: SODA), an Israeli based developer, manufacturer and marketer ofhome beverage carbonation systems, has attracted its share of hype over both its products and its stock, but could other small cap water stocks like Primo Water Corporation (NASDAQ: PRMW), Puresafe Water Systems Inc (OTCMKTS: PSWS) and Alkaline Water Company Inc (OTCBB: WTER) attract a similar following? After all, Sodastream International has managed to create a significant amount of buzz from consumers, investors and even short sellers because it theworld's largest manufacturer, distributor and marketer of home carbonation systems as itsbrands are sold in over 60,000 retail stores in 45 countries. Sodastream International is also up 45.7% since the start of the year, up 70.2% over the past year and up 99.3% since November 2010, but shares did spike up to the $75 level in the middle of 2011 and now trade at the $63 level.

If you've lost count of how many distributors Alkaline Water Company Inc. (OTCBB:WTER) has working for it now, you're not alone. Ditto for the number of grocers that are offering its flagship produce... one-gallon bottles of Alkaline84 water (some of the best-tasting and healthiest spring water you could ever drink). So many distributors and grocery store chains have just started carrying Alkaline84 within the past two months that it's been nearly impossible to keep up with how quickly WTER has gotten its ball rolling. There is one thing that's clear though - Alkaline Water Company has a LOT of momentum right now, up from none at the beginning of July. Take a look at all the doors the company has opened since it actually began marketing its bottled water:

Deere & Company (NYSE: DE) is reporting earnings on Wednesday morning and is hard to expect any greatness after what Caterpillar and others have warned about when it comes to emerging markets. The ag-equipment maker traded at close to $84 in late-Monday trading against a 52-week range of $79.50 to $95.60, Deere also trades at only about 10-times expected earnings. Estimates are $1.89 EPS and $8.7 billion in revenue.

The higher than expected farm income is good news for companies that sell to farmers, which have been forecasting slower sales in 2014 on lower grain prices. For example, in its November 19 conference call, Deere (DE) told Wall Street to expect a 5% to 10% drop in unit sales of agricultural equipment in the United States and Canada for the 2014 fiscal year, on lower sales of higher horsepower tractors and combines. Sales in Europe, Deere said, would be down 5% on lower commodity prices and lower farm incomes. In South America, Deere forecast a similar 5% to 10% drop.

Bill has also been busy with his investments. It is hard to imagine the kind of money Bill Gates earns. According to a report in the Bloomberg's Billionaire Index Gate's shares in Microsoft, along with investments through his investment firm Cascade, has resulted in a $9.8 billion profit for him in 2013. Cascade is involved in investments as diverse as the tractor maker Deer & Co. (NYSE: DE) and the Mexico Coke bottler Femsa. Cascade also has investments in the Canadian National Railway.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By James E. Brumley]

The recent strength from Sino-Global Shipping America, Ltd. (NASDAQ:SINO) and the now-renewed strength from Safe Bulkers, Inc. (NYSE:SB) would suggest those two stocks are among the very best ways to play the rebound currently unfurling in the shipping sector. And to be fair, both are fine companies in their own right. The top play in the dry goods maritime shipping arena, however, may well be Diana Shipping Inc. (NYSE:DSX). No, DSX isn't one of the fun and exciting small caps in the maritime shipping space. But, there's a lot to be said for size and stability, which SB and SINO can't offer.
